My traveling essentials

Hello and welcome to another blogpost,

today I am sharing with you my top traveling essentials especially if you are flying. It can be so hard to know what to pack and to know whats really necessary. So I have collected for you the top things I can't fly without!

1. Backpack
While this seems pretty obvious it seems like a lot of people underestimate it. I used to be that girl that took her fancy tiny purse with her for her flight thinking it looked super cute and jetsetterish
(is that a word). But over the years, flying around the world (especially to the USA) I have come the conclusion traveling with a purse is just not handy. Heres why:

  1. you can't fit a lot in it
  2. It hurts to carry it around all day, especially if you are standing in the immigration line for hours and hours
  3. there is no way you can make a purse stay organized
  4. a purse just seems too inviting to be stolen
So Backpacks are definitely better! For my trip to Atlanta last christmas I took my Fjäll Räven Kanken backpack (Amazon is linked), which this was a good solution because it fit more stuff than any of my purses and looked super cute at the same time. This summer I will either take that same backpack or use my eastpack - backpack.

2. Neck pillow
I have a really hard time sleeping on the airplane and while this isn't the magic cure for that it at least helps me relax and not get back pain. I bought my current one at Tj-maxx and am super happy with it. There is a huge selection on amazon you can choose from but you might want to try some in stores so that you know what you are looking for comfort-wise.

3. Passport case
While my Passport case is from Victorias Secret (Its a silver metallic one) there are so many other great ones out there. Definitely keep your eyes open this time of year since a lot of stores will be offering more travel oriented stuff. Otherwise you can always have a look on amazon! I love having a Passport case not only because it looks super fancy but also because Water bottles can spill and paper can look weird. Also I feel like it just all around protects the Passport and why not protect the most important thing for traveling (besides you of course)?

4. Travel wallet
With this I am not referring to a wallet you only use for traveling. I am talking about a wallet- like booklet thingy (its hard to describe) that keeps all important things in one place. Mine is fairly big and can fit: flight tickets, passport with passport case, pen, gum, credit cards/ insurance cards/ etc., money, flight itinerary, import addresses and some spare paper. I sadly couldn't find mine online anymore but I found you one that looks super cute and seems to fit a lot of stuff! Check out this one from amazon if you can't find one! I find these travel wallets are a total game changer because you have everything in one place and don't have to go through your whole back to look for something. Therefor you will also be less prone to pick pockets!!!

5. Wallet & Currency/ Cash
Of course you can't go anywhere without money. And even if you are planning on paying with your credit card or travel checks, you should always have emergency cash with you. This is crucial because it could always happen that you can't find an ATM or that your bank has blocked your credit card because they didn't know you were abroad (to make sure this doesn't happen always let your bank know when you'll be traveling where!). When traveling you should bring both the currency from the country you are traveling to as well as from your home country! To safely transport all of this money you need a wallet, basically any wallet will do. Mine is fairly big because I have a lot of cards and all that to fit in but this really depends on your preferences!

6. Small bag
When traveling abroad you will never know how safe a country really is, people will be able to tell you are a tourist and that makes you a very easy target for pick pockets! This is probably the nightmare of any traveler so here is my tip to prevent it: get an extra bag thats really small and you can wear under your clothes. This can be something you are wearing around your neck or one of these running belts with little pockets. Roll up your money really small and put all your important items as close to your body as possible. This way you will it with you wherever you go, if its a bathroom break during the flight or a quick question at the check - in counter!

7. Fuzzy socks
This travel essential is less safety oriented but more comfort oriented. When I fly or go for long road trips, I hate wearing shoes. Especially when flying, your feet tend to swell up and start hurting in your shoes and when sitting in an uncomfortable seat for 10 hours, the least thing you want is hurting feet. so take my advice and get yourself a pair of fuzzy socks. Your feet will feel warm and amazing all around!

8. Water bottle & other hydration tips
If you are like me you drink plenty of water and if your not you should be. But when you are flying this can be a challenge since the flight attendants aren't constantly checking if you want to drink something and if they do they will give you only small glasses that just aren't enough! When you are up it the sky the air gets so dry you have to make sure you are well hydrated. I do this by using eye drops, lotion etc. but also drinking loads of water. I always bring a big empty water bottle in my personal item bag and don't fill it up until after security check. I usually fill it up at some water fountain or sink (plants of options there). No you are set to fly and if you run out of water make sure to ask your flight attendant to fill up your water bottle. Not only does this safe plastic but it also make their job easier since they don't have to constantly come running back to refill your glas.

9. Cosmetic bag
Its a known fact that you are limited to  certain amount of liquids when traveling by plane. These need to come in a certain sized see trough plastic bag. Since I fly fairly much and I don't always want to buy new plastic bags (which you can totally do if you want) I decided to buy reusable plastic bags. They are made of thicker plastic with a zipper and are available in a set of different sizes. This is the set that I got in 2016 and its been on quiet a few trips with me already. I use the smallest one for all my liquids in my personal item. The medium one perfectly fits my make up (dry stuff only) and is usually stored in my carry on suitcase. The biggest on usually carry my electronics such as chargers for laptop, camera etc., my external drive, my external disc drive, and extra picture paper for my polaroid. When arrived at my destination I use the biggest one as a way to transport my shower stuff or just take it to the beach.
